Honolulu, HI- In their third consecutive Pac West road game to open up conference play, Chaminade ran into a red-hot HPU team in a classic shootout, falling 102-93.
Chaminade's Steven Bennett ran the show tonight, scoring 37 points on 14-23 shooting, knocking down five threes and getting to the basket throughout the contest. Shane Hanson added 20 points in defeat, going 9-16 from the field.
Hawaii Pacific led 49-44 at the break.
The game was hotly contested throughout, as the game was a two point game with three minutes to go in the contest. Two Sea Warrior run-outs late helped to make the final margin.
Freshman Waly Coulibaly was impressive from the arc, scoring 12 points on 4-8 from three, to go along with 3 rebounds. Chandler Pearson added 12 rebounds
Both teams shot an identical 52.8% from the floor. HPU shot 46% from three and the Swords shot 44% from behind the arc.
Ray Murdock had 27 points for Hawaii Pacific in the win.
Chaminade falls to 4-8 on the year, 1-2 in the Pac West. HPU moves to 12-3 on the season.
HPU secured their third victory in fifteen attempts in Matt Mahar's five year tenure as head coach of the Swords. The Sea Warriors last victory was in the 2007-08 season. Chaminade is back in action on January 23rd in McCabe Gym. The Swords will face UH-Hilo at 7:30 PM HT.
