HONOLULU, HI- The Swords Volleyball team overcame a slow start in set one to win three sets in a row to take care of Dominican in four sets (21-25, 25-13, 25-19, and 25-18) tonight at McCabe Gym.
Sword junior
Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/Kapaa) had 17 kills and 11 digs in a stellar performance. Gantt had a red-hot .472 hitting percentage. Freshman
Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/ Word of Life) was just one kill behind Gantt, finishing with 16 kills and 19 digs on the night.
The Swords were particularly impressive in the 25-13 second set victory, dominating the Penguins and hitting .500 for the set while limiting the Penguins to a .083 hitting percentage.
Senior setter
Tanya Alvino (Brentwood, CA/Liberty) led the offense with 54 assists in the win. Senior
Pisila Tukia (Tempe, AZ/Tempe) contributed 10 kills and 4.5 blocks for Chaminade.
The attack percentage battle was indicative of the final score as the Swords out-hit the Penguins .347 to .172. Chaminade dominated the battle at the net 13-2. CUH lost the dig battle 73-87.
Dominican was led by Hannah Stocking with 16 kills.
With the loss, Chaminade moves to 5-12, 2-8 in the PWC. Dominican moves to 3-20, 0-11 in the PWC. The Swords look to get another win against Dominican on Friday, October 29th at 7:00 PM HT at McCabe Gym.
