CUH WVB: Lady Swords Swept by BYU-H 3 to 0

Chaminade says "Aloha" to Tanya Alvino and Pisila Tuka

Honolulu, HI – Tonight's match against the Seaisders of BYU- Hawai'i was bittersweet. The Lady Swords said, “Aloha” to Tanya Alvino and Pisila Tukia, who both played in their final collegiate games this evening for the Silverswords of Chaminade. Chaminade lost 3 games to 0 and finished their 2010 Volleyball Season.

Alvino was four year member of the team while Tukia was a three year member. Alvino played in 96 matches for the Silverswords and recorded 3,272 sets and 135 kills in her collegiate career. Tukia, a middle blocker for Chaminade, competed in 74 total matches. She finished her Chaminade University career with 325 kills and 174 blocks.

Tanya Alvino's thoughts on her four year career for the Silverswords, “It has been a great four years playing with Chaminade, I will never forget all the fun times and the great friends I have made and met along the way.”  

Pisila Tukia's thought on three year career for the Silverswords, “My three years of being a member of the Chaminade Women's Volleyball team has been the best of times! I have found my second family away from home and have enjoyed every second of it. I am very blessed to have been a part of this amazing program these past three years. “

Coach Nahaku Brown added her thoughts on her two co-captains, “Both Tanya and Pisila, have displayed tremendous leadership on and off the court. They were majors players for our team this year and I am proud of the way have they grown over the course of the season and through out their careers. They truly are great role models for Chaminade University.”

CUH was led by sophomore Kylee Pedro (Kailua, HI/ Mid-Pacific) who added 11 kills and 11 digs. 
Junior Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/Kapaa) added 6 kills and 12 digs.  Tanya Alvino contributed in her final match in Silversword Royal Blue and White with 26 assists and 9 digs. Pisila Tukia finished out her collegiate career with 5 kills and 3 digs.

Junior Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 16 digs for the Swords.

BYU- Hawai'i was led by Julie Becker who finished up the night with 12 kills and 12 digs.

With the loss, Chaminade finishes the year 7-16, 4-12 in the PWC. BYU- Hawai'i in tonight's sweep of the Swords claimed a share of the PACWEST championship with UH- Hilo. BYU- Hawai'i automatically qualifies for the NCAA regional tournament with their win tonight and also because UH-Hilo's lost  tonight to cross town rival Hawai'i Pacific University in four sets.
