HONOLULU, HI- The Swords played their second five set match in four days, this time going five sets before falling 3-2, (21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 28-30, 14-16) to the Urban Knights of Academy of Art.
After dropping the first set, the Swords got rolling, winning the second and third sets. Chaminade hit .225 in the second set and then .357 in the third set to go up two sets to one.
The final two sets were both decided by two points, as the teams battled back and forth for the victory. The Swords led as late as 13-12 in the fifth set before AAU won 16-14 to take the match.
CUH was led by an impressive evening from junior
Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/Kapaa) with 21 kills and 11 digs. Freshman
Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/ Word of Life) had 18 kills and 9 digs on the night.
Tanya Alvino had 52 assists and 10 digs in the loss.
Junior
Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 23 digs for the Swords.
The Swords out-hit the Urban Knights .250 to .222. Chaminade also dominated the net totaling 15 blocks to AAU's 8. CUH lost the dig battle 63-72.
AAU was led by Dan Yang with 20 kills.
With the loss, Chaminade moves to 7-14, 4-10 in the PWC. AAU moves to 14-11, 8-6 in the PWC. The Swords next faces UH-Hilo on Wednesday, November 10th at 7:00 PM HT at McCabe Gym.
