CUH MBB: Swords Defeat Pesky Argonauts 75-69

Four players score in double figures for Chaminade

Honolulu, HI- The Swords took on NDNU tonight in McCabe Gym and the Argos gave the home team a fight all night. 

 

The game was back and forth early, but a late first half run put the Swords up 38-30 at the break.  Matt Cousins was tough inside early, grabbing 6 first half rebounds to go along with 10 points.  Cousins finished the night with 19 points and 9 rebounds. 

 

Junior Kevin Kucel and freshman Ryan Lawler provided much needed minutes off the bench.  Kucel finished with 2 points, 3 assists and 1 rebound in 16 minutes. 

 

Steven Bennett continued his stellar play, scoring 20 points to go along with 4 steals and 3 rebounds.  Junior Chandler Pearson knocked down two three's on his way to 10 points and 6 rebounds, while Dominique Cooks led the team in assists (5) to go along with 9 points. 

 

The Swords shot 81% from the free throw line in the closing twenty minutes to help preserve the victory.  Junior Shane Hanson knocked down 6-6, scoring a total of 11 points to go along with 8 rebounds. 

 

The Swords shot 44% from the floor but only 29% from three on the evening.  Chaminade won the rebounding battle 36-31.    

 

Chris Silzer had 18 points for the Argos in defeat.   

 

Chaminade improves to 6-9 on the year, 3-3 in the Pac West. NDNU moves to 2-18, 0-8 in Pac West play.  The Swords are back in action vs. Academy of Art on February 5th.  Game time is set for 7:30 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
