San Rafael, CA- The Swords fell to a hard-nosed, scrappy Dominican team on the Penguins senior night, 67-59.
Chaminade got out in front early, leading by nine points midway through the first half, but the Penguins rallied back behind nine Silversword turnovers to lead at the break 28-26.
The early turnovers proved to be an omen as the Swords coughed it up 12 times in the final twenty minutes. The final score was Dominican's largest lead, as the Swords battled in an effort to regain the lead, but ultimately wasted possessions proved to be the difference.
Chaminade was led by sophomore
Matt Cousins with 21 points and 9 rebounds. Junior
Steven Bennett added 14 points in defeat. The Penguin bench outscored Chaminade's bench 25-7.
Dominican was led by senior guard Alastair Flack with 17 points.
The Swords fall to 9-15, 6-9 in the Pac West. Chaminade concludes its season at UH-Hilo on March 8th. Game time is set for 7:30 PM at UHH Gymnasium.
