CUH WVB: Swords Handled at Cal Baptist in Three Sets

Gantt leads Chaminade with 9 kills

RIVERSIDE, CA- Chaminade couldn't find the answers tonight on the road at Cal Baptist University.  The Swords lost a Pac West Conference match with CBU in three sets at Van Dyne Gym on the Cal Baptist campus.  The Swords were defeated by the Lancers by scores of: 11-25, 23-25, 19-25.
 
The Swords struggled in the first set, falling 11-25.  The second set was CUH's best set, as the set saw 9 ties and 2 lead changes.  Chaminade just missed out on a crucial momentum change, dropping the pivotal set 23-25.   CBU took the third set 25-19 for the win.
 
Senior Poerava Gantt (Kapa'a, HI/Kapa'a) was a bright spot for the Swords with 9 kills and 10 points on the match.  CBU hit .320 to Chaminade's .068 on the night.   
 
Junior Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and sophomore Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) each added 7 kills in defeat for CUH.  Senior setter Kristina Donathan (Honolulu, HI/St. Andrew's Priory) led the offense 24 assists and 6 digs for Chaminade. 
 
The Swords were out-dug by Cal Baptist as Chaminade had 36 digs to CBU's 44.  The Lancers had 9 blocks while the Swords had 3 blocks for the match. 
 
CBU was led by Ingrid Carmona with 21 kills.
 
The Swords fall to 2-13 (1-8 PWC) with the loss. The Lancers move to 12-8 (5-4 in PWC).  Chaminade's road trip continues on October 17th at Grand Canyon.  First serve is set for 6 PM MT.
