ST. GEORGE, UT- The six-game, eleven day road trip has come to an end. The Swords dropped their last match on the mainland in another competitive showdown with Dixie State in three sets this evening by scores of: 18-25, 19-25 and 19-25.
The Swords dropped the first set, but the second set showed a Sword's side that was not ready to give up. Two thirds of the way through the set the Swords led 16-15 after a kill by senior
Poerava Gantt (Kapa'a, HI/Kapa'a) off an assist by freshman setter
Ka Ua Cale (Waimanalo, HI/Kalaheo). Dixie State responded with three points in a row and took the set and ultimately the match, in three sets.
Junior
Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) led the way with 9 kills and 11 digs, while setter
Ka Ua Cale led the Sword attack with 21 assists for Chaminade.
The Swords lost the dig battle, ending a three-match streak where the Swords won that category. Dixie had 56 digs to Chaminade's 49. Silversword outside hitter
Poerava Gantt had 6 kills and 14 digs, while
Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) had another double-digit dig night, tallying 13.
Dixie State was led by Morgan Hill with 10 kills, 10 blocks. The Red Storm dominated the block category with 14 blocks to 3 for CUH.
The Swords fall to 2-17 (1-11 PWC) with the loss. Dixie State moves to 13-6 (8-3 in PWC). Chaminade returns home for a match on Sunday, October 30
th against Dominican (CA). First serve is set for 7 PM HT.
