HONOLULU, HI- The Swords lost a four set Pac West Conference match tonight with Hawaii Pacific in front of a large, energetic crowd at McCabe Gym. The Swords were defeated by the Sea Warriors 24-26, 21-25, 25-19 and 13-25.
The Swords were very competitive in the first two sets, but lost both. In fact, Chaminade out-hit the Sea Warriors by percentage in those sets. Chaminade refused to quit, and won the third set 25-19, outhitting Hawaii Pacific .273 to .077 to close to within one set of the Sea Warriors. HPU answered by taking the fourth set by the score of 25-13 to earn the victory.
Sophomore
Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) led the way for CUH with 19 kills and 19 digs. Powell shined, hitting .255 for the match. Fellow Sword
Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) added 12 kills and 15 digs in defeat.
Senior setter
Kristina Donathan (Honolulu, HI/St. Andrew's Priory) led the offense with 43 assists and 12 digs for Chaminade. Senior
Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) was a standout defensively tonight, contributing 17 digs.
The Swords hustled defensively and won the dig battle 79-73 on the match. Hawaii Pacific had 8.5 blocks while Chaminade had 7 blocks for the match.
Offensive hitting percentages were similar for both teams tonight, as HPU hit .189 while CUH hit .177 for the match.
The Sea Warriors were led by Natasha Bell with 13 kills.
The Swords fall to 2-11 (1-6 PWC) with the loss. The Sea Warriors move to 10-5 (5-1 in PWC). Chaminade's next match is at Cal Baptist on October 14
th at 7 PM PT.
