CUH WVB: Swords Struggle against Academy of Art, Fall in Three

Gantt leads Chaminade with 9 kills

 HONOLULU, HI- The Swords lost a Pac West Conference match tonight with the Urban Knights of Academy of Art in McCabe Gym in three sets.  Chaminade fell 23-25, 20-25 and 9-25.
 
The Swords best set was the first, leading 23-20 late in the set, ultimately forcing an Academy of Art timeout.  The Urban Knights rallied with five straight points to take the first set.  The second set was competitive as well, with Academy of Art taking a 12-12 set and breaking away to win 25-20.  AAU won the third set going away by a final tally of 25-9 to win the match. 
 
Freshman setter Ka Ua Cale (Waimanalo, HI/Kalaheo) led the Swords 18 assists to lead Chaminade
 
Silversword outside hitter Poerava Gantt (Kapaa, HI/Kapaa) had 9 kills and 5 digs and Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 9 digs in defeat.  The Swords had 26 digs as a team, while AAU had 43. 
 
Academy of Art was led by Holli Kaina with 15 kills and Melissa Cheng with 40 assists.    
 
The Swords fall to 2-19 (1-13 PWC) with the loss. Academy of Art improves to 8-15 (4-8 in PWC).  Chaminade is back at home for a match on Wednesday, November 9th against Pac West Conference leader BYU-Hawaii.  First serve is set for 7 PM HT.
