CUH WVB: Swords Fall to Regionally-Ranked BYU-Hawaii in Three Sets

HONOLULU, HI- The Swords lost a Pac West Conference match tonight to the Pac West Champion Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii in McCabe Gym in three sets.  Chaminade fell 12-25, 8-25 and 13-25.
 
The Seasiders showed why they are the 2011 Pac West Champs early on in the match.  Leading 13-8 in the first set, the Seasiders went on a 10-3 run to lead 23-11 and ultimately win the set 25-12.  The second set was a BYU-Hawaii win as the Seasiders hit .409 for the set.  BYU-H hit over .400 for the match (.432).  Chaminade hit -.020 on the match. 
 
Freshman setter Ka Ua Cale (Waimanalo, HI/Kalaheo) led the Swords 17 assists to lead Chaminade
 
CUH outside hitters sophomore Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) and junior Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha) had 5 kills each to lead Chaminade.   Senior Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 13 digs, while Viveiros added 12 digs in defeat.  The Swords had 35digs as a team, while BYU-Hawaii had 45. 
 
BYU-Hawaii was led by Shih Ting Chen, Lauren Hagemeyer and Erh Fang Hsu with 9 kills each. 
 
The Swords fall to 2-20 (1-14 PWC) with the loss. BYU-Hawaii improves to 17-3 (14-1 in PWC).  Chaminade is back at home for a match on Saturday, November 12th against Pac West Conference foe Hawaii-Hilo.  First serve is set for 7 PM HT. It is the last match of the season and senior night for the Swords.
