KANEOHE, HI- A hard-fightingChaminade Men's Soccer team fell to the Seasiders of BYU-Hawaii in a closely contested match in the Swords final contest of the Hawaii Challenge Cup hosted at Atherton Field on the HPU campus.
The first half saw neither team tally a goal and each team tally double-digit shots (CUH-10, BYU-Hawaii-12) as the match went into the half with a 0-0 score.
Chaminade saw some offensive firepower from a trio of freshman in the match as:
Uriel Soto (Dallas, TX/Duncanville) tallied four shots, while
Dayton Sato (Waipahu, HI/ Pearl City) and
Kyle Withoft (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View) each had three shots apiece in defeat.
Junior
Patrick Wolverton (Anchorage, AK/ Peninsula College) was also aggressive offensively, tallying four shots, one on goal for the match.
The game-winner for the Seasiders came in the 83rd minute from Bent Jensen.
Silversword freshman goalkeeper,
Jose Miguel Pena (Santiago, Chile/St. George's) stopped double-digit shots, tallying 10 saves in the loss.
Bent Jensen led the way for BYU-Hawaii with 5 shots on the match.
With the loss, Chaminade moves to 0-3-1 and BYU-Hawaii moves to 3-0. The Swords are back in action on Thursday, September 15th at 12:30 PM HT at home at St. Louis Field against UH-Hilo. The Seasiders defeated UH-Hilo 3-1 in the Challenge Cup opener at 5 PM yesterday at Waipio Soccer Complex.
