HONOLULU, HI- The Swords faced a red-hot Crusaders team tonight and fell in three sets: 10-25, 19-25 and 17-25.
Northwest Nazarene came out and took the first set to Chaminade, winning the set handily. CUH showed some life in the second set before falling by a score of 25-19. Chaminade hit .257 for the second set, their best of the match.
The Silverswords came out ready to climb back into the match in the third set, enjoying an 11-9 lead after a service ace by senior
Allie Board (Redwood City, CA/Notre Dame). NNU responded, going on a five point run and didn't look back, taking the third set, 25-17.
Sophomore
Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) led the way for Chaminade with 10 kills and 7 digs. Swords senior defensive specialist,
Kristy Inamasu (Kahului, HI/Maui) added 10 digs.
Junior
Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) had 6 kills and 9 digs in defeat for Chaminade. Freshman setter Michaelynne Cale (Waimanalo,HI/Kalaheo) saw extended action for the Swords, contributing 13 assists.
The Swords won the dig battle 40-35. The Crusaders had a hitting percentage of .284 to .062 for CUH
NNU was led by Becky Flores with 9 kills.
The Swords fall to 1-3 with the loss. Chaminade is back in action on September 3rd in McCabe Gym. CUH will face Sonoma State at 11:00 AM HT and then UCSD at 7:30 PM HT. Northwest Nazarene improves to 2-0.
