CUH MBB: Silverswords Fall to Argos, 69-66

Cousins leads Swords with 25 points, 9 rebounds

Box Score BELMONT, CA – Chaminade in their third game in a row away from Honolulu, fell to the Argos of NDNU 69-66 in PacWest conference action.     
 
Chaminade got off to a fast start, leading 11-2 at the first media timeout.  Senior Matt Cousins (Santa Rosa, CA/Cardinal Newman) and freshman Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) continued their stellar years combining for 9 of those 11 points in the opening minutes.  CUH continued the hot start, leading 30-15 before NDNU fought back.  CUH lead 39-29 at the break.   Cousins led the way with 9 points and 5 rebounds in the first half for the Swords.  Senior forward Rickey Clayborn (Chicago, IL/E. Chicago added 8 points in the half. 
 
Chaminade shot 42% from the floor in the first half while holding NDNU to 28%. 
 
NDNU came out in the second half, led by Tyler Fricke and got back in the game.  A jumper by Fricke with 2:07 left game gave Notre Dame de Namur a seven point lead.  The Argos held on against a Silversword charge for the 69-66 win.   
 
Matt Cousins led the way with 25 points and 9 rebounds.  Cousins was 17-18 from the line. Junior guard Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/Will C. Wood) added 13 points in defeat.
 
Coach Bovaird commented following the contest: “We let one slip through.  We missed some open shots.  They hit shots late in the shot clock on a lot of possessions.  We played solid defense.  Give NDNU credit, they did a good job slowing us down and they made some tough shots.” 
 
The Swords corralled more caroms than their opponents, 35-33.  CUH shot 37% while NDNU shot 42% from the floor on the game.    
 
The Argos were led by Tyler Fricke with 26 points.
 
Chaminade next faces Academy of Art in San Francisco, CA on January 23rd. Tip is set for 7:30 PM PT.
 
With the loss, the Swords move to 7-6, 5-1 in PWC while NDNU moves to 7-9, 3-5 PWC.
