CUH WVB: Chaminade Effort Comes Up Short against Azusa Pacific

Spring leads Chaminade with 14 kills

Box Score HONOLULU, HI- The Silverswords fell to Azusa Pacific in four sets this evening in a very competitive conference matchup: 18-25, 9-25, 25-23 and 19-25.
 
The Cougars got off to a quick start winning the first two sets and looked as if they were headed to a three-set sweep.  The Swords had different plans however, and showed their skill early in the third set, and jumped out to a large lead over APU, 15-6. Azusa Pacific did their best to rally, but Chaminade refused to give up the set, as a kill by junior Kapiolani Rapoza (Kailua, HI/Sacred Hearts) clinched the set for CUH, 25-23.
 
The fourth set was also a strong set early for Chaminade, as the Swords led 11-10 over APU following a kill by Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life).  The Cougars responded to win the set 25-19 to clinch the match. 
 
Freshman Kim Spring (Bern, Switzerland/ Feusi Bildungszentrum and Feusi Sportschule) led the way for Chaminade with 14 kills and also added 3 blocks on the match.    
 
Freshman Brenda Walker (Honolulu, HI/McKinley) led Chaminade with 22 digs, while Valentina Bevilacqua (Vacallo, Switz./Scuola Cantonale di Comm. Bellinzona) added 10 digs in defeat. The Cougars won the overall dig battle, 56-52.  Both teams were impressive at the net as Azusa Pacific had 12 blocks while Chaminade was strong at the net as well with 7 blocks on the match. 
 
Azusa Pacific was led by Jackie Landers with 17 kills.
 
The Swords fall to 6-13, 3-8 PWC with the defeat. Azusa Pacific moves to 13-7, 5-5 PWC. Chaminade takes on HPU on Friday night (Oct. 19th) at St. Andrew's Priory. First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT.
