Box Score BELMONT, CA- Chaminade got a much-needed win, defeating the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur in four sets tonight at Walter Gleason Gym on the campus of NDNU. The Swords got off to a strong start winning the first set 25-14 with a .296 team hitting percentage.
Following a loss in the second set (21-25), Chaminade took sets three (25-20) and four (25-16) to earn the win. The Swords hit a scorching-hot .515 in the match-clinching fourth set. The fourth set was tied at 14-14 before CUH outscored NDNU 9-3 in finish the match.
Kim Spring (Bern, Switzerland/ Feusi Bildungszentrum and Feusi Sportschule) led the way with 14 kills, while setter
Valentina Bevilacqua (Vacallo, Switzerland/Scuola Cantonale di Commercio Bellinzona) led the way for the Swords with 15 digs.
Senior
Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) and junior
Matia Spencer (Dayton, NV/Dayton) both added 11 kills in the win. Junior
Daniella Montoya (Las Vegas, NM/ Robertson) led the offense with 26 assists while freshman
Brenda Walker (Honolulu HI/ McKinley) finished with 11 digs,
Coach Kabalis said after the win: “Overall the ladies played confident and composed tonight. We were too lax in the second set and missed too many serves along with some communication errors. I'm glad we were able to refocus and go hard for sets three and four.”
Sarah Rodriguez led the way for NDNU with 11 kills.
The Swords move to 6-9 (3-4 PWC) with the win. NDNU falls to 1-14 (0-6 PWC). Chaminade is back in action on October 3rd as the Swords head to San Francisco, CA to take on Academy of Art. First serve is set for 7:00 PM PT.
