CUH MSOC: Swords Battle against Cal Baptist, Fall 3-1

Galloway tallies goal for Chaminade

Box Score RIVERSIDE, CA- The Swords took on the Lancers of Cal Baptist this afternoon and lost a rugged PacWest Conference match 3-1.

The Swords and Lancers were in a very competitive match on Cal Baptist's home turf as evidenced by the one-goal difference in the contest for nearly the whole ninety minutes.  Only after Lancer Chris Gaitan scored with just seconds remaining was CBU afforded a two-goal cushion.

Cal Baptist struck first in this Discoverer's Day affair, notching a goal in the 24th minute by Jonathan Garcia to take a 1-0 lead into the half.  The Lancers out-shot CUH 11-2 in the half.

The match changed early in the second half as Sam Galloway (Akron, OH/Copley) took a pass from freshman Cameron Heen (Cupertino, CA/Homestead) and found the back of the net to even the sides at 1-1 in the 54th minute of action.  The match remained tied for twenty minutes before CBU answered back in the 75th minute of action to regain the lead at 2-1.  The Lancers tallied a goal very late in the contest, earning a breakaway after Chaminade pushed men forward in hopes of a tying goal.  The final score: Cal Baptist 3 Chaminade 1.

The second half shot total reflected the even play as Chaminade managed six shots in the second half to CBU's eleven.

Junior Conor Knox (O'Fallon, IL/ O'Fallon Township) made 3 saves in for CUH.  Chaminade lost the shot tally 21-8. Galloway was effective for Chaminade, tallying four shots, three on goal in defeat.

With the defeat, Chaminade moves to (1-7-1, 1-5-1 PWC). Cal Baptist moves to (7-2-1, 5-1 PWC).  Chaminade is set to head to Azusa Pacific on October 11th at the Azusa Soccer Complex.  Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM PT.
