WVB: Chaminade Drops Battle with HPU in Three Sets

Box Score HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade took on the Sea Warriors of Hawaii Pacific in an electric McCabe Gym.  It was an action-packed Thursday night where the Swords honored Silversword senior outside hitter Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) for her career and the Chaminade University surfboard for the 2012 EA Sports Maui Invitational was unveiled. 
 
HPU and Chaminade battled in set one with the Sea Warriors earning a hard-fought set one win 25-23.  Hawaii Pacific won set two 25-17 that set up an exciting third set.  The Silverswords worked to avoid the sweep and jumped out to a 15-9 lead in the set.  CUH looked sharp and had Hawaii Pacific off-balance.  The Sea Warriors rallied back and tied the set at 22 all to set up the finish.  HPU found the answers it was looking for and took three straight points to win the set 25-22 and the match in three sets.
 
Junior Kapiolani Rapoza (Kailua, HI/Sacred Hearts) continued her solid play in recent matches, leading Chaminade with 14 kills on a .333 hitting percentage. 
 
Silversword senior outside hitter Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) finished with 4 kills and 9 digs in her final match as a Sword.  Kim Spring (Bern, Switzerland/ Feusi Bildungszentrum and Feusi Sportschule) added 11 kills in defeat.  Junior setter Daniella Montoya (Las Vegas, NM/Robertson) had a double-double with 19 assists and 11 digs. 
 
Freshman Brenda Walker (Honolulu, HI/McKinley) led CUH with 16 digs.  CUH out-dug HPU 57-51.   
 
The Sea Warriors were led by Kasey Thompson with 9 kills.
 
The Swords finish the year at 7-17, 4-11 PWC with the loss.  HPU concludes it season at 17-8, 10-6 PWC.
