CUH WVB: Chaminade Falls to Sunbirds of Fresno Pacific in Three Sets

Powell leads Swords with 9 kills

Box Score HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade was defeated by new PacWest Conference member, Fresno Pacific 9-25, 24-26 and 13-25 in Chaminade's final contest of the 2012 Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational tonight in McCabe Gym. 
 
The Sunbirds got off to a hot start, hitting .500 in the first set en route to a 25-9 set one win.  Chaminade responded in game two, out-hitting Fresno Pacific .227 to .186 and nearly winning the game, as Chaminade tied FPU twice late in the set.  A FPU attack by Mikayla Tucker went wide and the score was knotted at 24-24 before the Sunbirds scored twice in a row to win the set 26-24. 
 
FPU took the third set 25-13 to earn the sweep.
 
CUH outside hitter Crystal Powell (Honolulu, HI/Word of Life) was a bright spot for the Swords, tally nine kills on a .318 hitting percentage in the loss. Freshman outside hitter Kim Spring (Bern, Switzerland/ Feusi Bildungszentrum and Feusi Sportschule) added 8 kills and 8 digs in the loss.
 
Freshman setter Valentina Bevilacqua (Vacallo, Switzerland/Scuola Cantonale di Commercio Bellinzona) led Chaminade with 9 assists.
 
The Sunbirds were led by Mikayla Tucker with 15 kills and Erica Adachi with 20 assists on the match.
 
The Swords move to 1-3 (0-0 PWC) with the loss. Fresno Pacific improves to 2-1. Chaminade is back in action next Thursday evening as the Swords take on Alaska Fairbanks in McCabe Gym.  First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT.
