Box Score BELMONT, CA– The Swords earned their second straight 20+ point victory with a 76-52 win over the Argonauts of Notre Dame de Namur this evening in PacWest Conference road action.
Chaminade led by seven points at halftime (35-28) with De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) leading the way with nine first half points on 4-5 shooting. Senior guards
Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/ Will C. Wood) and
Waly Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali/Patterson Prep) each added eight points in the opening half as the Swords shot 46% from three in the first twenty minutes. NDNU stayed close behind 10 first half points from Geoff Hartman.
The Argos cut the Chaminade lead to four points in the opening moments of the second half, but the game did not remain close. The Silverswords used a 17-2 run over the next five minutes to lead 52-33 and put the game out of reach with over 14 minutes left in the contest. Notre Dame de Namur could not get the Chaminade lead under sixteen points the rest of the way. Chaminade won 76-52.
Coach Bovaird commented on the team effort: “We are playing really good team defense right now. The guys are active, aggressive and intense defensively. Anytime you can get a win on the road in this conference you should be happy.”
Sophomore guard
Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) had a solid night, scoring 13 points and adding 5 assists in the win. De'Andre Haskins was the third Sword in double figures with 13 points and 9 rebounds, while senior
Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, Australia/Holy Spirit) corralled 10 rebounds along with 9 points and 3 assists in the win.
NDNU was led by Geoff Hartman with 13 points.
The Swords move to 9-8 on the year and 6-3 in the PacWest with the win. NDNU falls to 5-11 and 4-4 in the PacWest on the year. Chaminade is back in action at Academy of Art in PacWest Conference action on January 26th. Tip is set for 3:00 PM PT at the Kezar Pavilion.
