Box Score HONOLULU, HI– Chaminade took on the Hawks of Holy Names tonight in McCabe Gym and won handily, 94-65.
The Swords got off to a great start, leading 26-12 at the halfway point of the first half. Chaminade kept the pesky Hawks at bay and enjoyed an eighteen point lead at the break, 41-23. CUH had a 28-17 lead on the glass to help lead to the advantage.
Seniors De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) led the way for the Silverswords in the first half with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Fellow senior
Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/ Will C. Wood) added 8 points in the half for CUH.
The Silverswords shot 45% from the floor and held the Hawks to 27% in the half. Chaminade's offense continued the strong performance in the second half and led 66-28 with 11:23 remaining in the contest. Chaminade ran away with the contest 94-65 for the conference win.
Sophomore guard
Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) led Chaminade with 5 assists. De'Andre Haskins led the Swords with 22 points and 9 rebounds, while
Bennie Murray added 18 points, connecting on four three's on the night. Four Silverswords scored in double figures as
Dominique Cooks (Wollongong, Australia/Holy Spirit) added 10 points while
Kevin Hu (Taipei, Taiwan/Songsan) had 14 points and 8 rebounds.
Junior forward
Rhys Murphy (Sydney, Australia/Barker) did not play due to injury.
Chaminade shot from 47% the field on the night and held Holy Names to 33% shooting. The Swords dominated the glass 57-35, including 19 offensive rebounds.
Holy Names was led by Nick Simi with 20 points.
The Swords move to 4-7 on the year and 1-2 in the PacWest. Holy Names falls to 3-8, 0-3 in the PacWest on the year. Chaminade is back in action against Dominican (CA) in PacWest Conference action. Tip is set for 7:30 PM HT in McCabe Gym.
