MBB: Three in a Row! Silverswords Take Care of Academy of Art 83-70

Box Score HONOLULU, HI– The Swords and Urban Knights played a competitive contest tonight in McCabe Gym that Chaminade won, 83-70.  Academy of Art came into the game at 3-8 and 1-3 in the PacWest Conference.  In the first half of action, the Urban Knights gave Chaminade all it could handle, and trailed just 30-28 to the Swords after twenty minutes of action.
 
ARTU got off to a fast start against the Silverswords, who had won two in a row at home and were looking to make it three.
 
The Urban Knights were up 23-13 following an Ameer Shamsud-din jumper with 7:06 left in the first half.  The Swords answered with a 14-1 run, culminating with a De'Andre Haskins (Long Beach, CA/Jordan) jumper to make the score 27-24 late in the half.  Chaminade led 30-28 at the half.  Waly Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali/Patterson Prep) led CUH with 8 points.  CUH had a hard time connecting from three, shooting 3-17 from there, good for 18% for the half. 
 
Following a layup by Rodrigo Maza early in the half to cut the Chaminade lead to one at 38-37, the Swords went on a 17-6 run to extend the lead to twelve points with 11:22 left in the contest. Senior guard Bennie Murray (Fairfield, CA/ Will C. Wood) had seven points in the run for CUH.  The Swords managed to keep the lead in double-digits the rest of the way and won 83-70. Chaminade shot 42% from the floor and the Urban Knights shot 39% in defeat. ART U out-rebounded CUH 38-31.
 
Bennie Murray led Chaminade with 19 points and 7 rebounds, including an impressive 13-15 performance from the free throw line. 
 
Sophomore guard Lee Bailey (Detroit, MI/Detroit Country Day) added 19 points (10-10 free throws) and 4 rebounds.  Sophomore Mike Green (Dublin, OH/Dublin Coffman) came off the bench and made three three's and scored 9 points in 16 minutes.   
 
Academy of Art was led by Aaron Anderson with 19 points.
 
The Swords move to 6-7 on the year and 3-2 in the PacWest with the win. Academy of Art falls to 3-9 and 1-4 in the PacWest on the year.  Chaminade is back in action at Hawaii Pacific in PacWest Conference action on January 14th.  Tip is set for 5:00 PM HT at Moanalua High School.
