WVB: HPU Downs Swords in 4

Powell had a season-high 13 kills against HPU on Saturday.
Box Score HONOLULU – The Chaminade women's volleyball team returned to action on O'ahu after an 8-day Mainland road swing, but could not keep up with Hawai'i Pacific at St. Andrew's Priory Gym, falling in four sets in a Pacific West Conference match Saturday, 23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-19 .
 
The Silverswords fell to 5-9 overall and 2-7 in the PacWest. The Sea Warriors improved to 13-4 and 7-2, sweeping the season series and extending their current win streak against CUH to 13.
 
Chaminade got season-highs of 13 kills by Crystal Powell and 11 from Kylee Pedro. HPU was led by Pomai Recca, who put down a match-best 16.
 
CUH trailed midway through the first set, 12-9, but a 5-0 run assisted by three Sea Warrior errors would give Chaminade a 14-12 lead. HPU eventually tied the set at 16, but a key 4-0 run would give the Swords a 20-16 lead. The Sea Warriors would stave off three set points, but the Swords took it on the fourth try via an HPU hitting error.
 
The second set was all Sea Warriors as they built an early 5-point lead which eventually swelled to 12 as HPU tied the match.
 
HPU grabbed another 5-point led in Set 3, but the Swords rallied back, cutting the deficit to 20-18. The Sea Warriors then rattled off five of the next six points, taking a 2-1 lead.
 
The fourth set turned out to be highly competitive as neither team established more than a 3-point lead until late in the set. The key stretch came with HPU holding a 20-18 lead then four consecutive Sea Warrior points doomed the Swords.
 
HPU hit .237 for the match to CUH's .134 and also served tough with 10 service aces to the Swords' one. Chaminade, however, were able to keep pace with 52 digs to HPU's 57 as well as well as blocks as CUH tied a season-high with nine to HPU's 10.
 
Reigna Johnson, Kim Spring and Ku`ulei Lynch each tallied four total blocks for the Swords while Brenda Walker had a match-high 22 digs.
