Box Score HONOLULU – The Chaminde women's volleyball could not overcome Point Loma, dropping a straight set decision, 25-14, 25-14, 25-23, Thursday at McCabe Gym.
The Silverswords fell to 5-10 overall and 2-8 in the Pacific West Conference. The Sea Lions, ranked 25
th in the nation, maintained their first place lead in the conference, remaining undefeated in the PacWest at 11-0 while improving to 17-3 overall.
Kelli LeClair put down 18 kills on 25 attacks with no errors in hitting a staggering .720 percentage on the evening to lead PLNU. Alyssa Dwyer and Heather Leavitt each had 11 kills with Dwyer hitting .417 on the night.
The Swords were led by
Kapiolani Rapoza's seven kills, followed by
Cassie Rushlow's five.
Brenda Walker had nine digs while
Daniella Montoya had 10 assists.
Chaminade fell behind early in Set 1, trailing by as many as six. But the Swords battled their way back, cutting the deficit to three at 14-11. But a 9-2 Sea Lion run dashed any hopes of a first set rally.
The second set saw CUH jump out to a 12-10 lead. But a run of seven consecutive points by Point Loma would help secure a 2-0 lead for the Sea Lions.
The Swords would show resiliency in the third set. Despite trailing by as many as five early, CUH forced four hitting errors and took a 12-11 lead. The Sea Lions would start to pull away again, but the feisty Swords refused to go away, tying the third set twice in its late stages including at 23-all. But the nationally-ranked squad proved to be too much in the end, scoring the match's final two points to secure the victory.
Chaminade returns to the McCabe Gym floor Friday night as it hosts California Baptist starting at 7 p.m. The match will also be streamed live on goswords.com.
