Red Storm Sweeps Swords

Johnson's seven kills and four blocks were team-highs at Dixie State.
Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah – A disappointing road trip came to a close on Monday for the Chaminade women's volleyball team with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 sweep to Dixie State at Burns Arena.
 
The Silverswords, who entered the road trip having won four straight, fell to 9-15 overall and 6-13 in the PacWest. The Red Storm improved to 17-8 and 14-5.
 
Reigna Johnson led the Swords with seven kills and four blocks. Kapiolani Rapoza had six kills while hitting .417. Brenda Walker had nine digs while Daniella Montoya had 15 assists.
 
CUH opened the match with a 2-1 lead, but Dixie State went on an 8-1 run to grab a 9-3 advantage. The Swords would battle back, closing to within three points twice, but 6-1 run would help the Red Storm take the first set.
 
Set 2 seemed to be a mirror image of the first with CUH taking a 4-3 lead. But the Swords committed five errors contributing to an 11-4 Red Storm advantage. Chaminade rallied and got to within four points four times, but at 20-16, the Swords committed three attack errors in a set-ending 5-0 run, giving the Red Storm a 2-0 lead.
 
In the third set, Dixie State pulled out to a 10-5 lead , but again, Chaminade staged a mini-rally with kills from Ku`ulei Lynch and Rapoza, while Pedro and Rapoza combined on a double-block to close to 11-8. But CUH would get no closer as the Red Storm closed out the match.
 
The road-weary Silverswords, who spent Sunday traveling from Azusa, Calif., to St. George, hit only .071 in the match, while the Red Storm hit .319. The Swords managed to hang with Dixie State in total blocks (8-6 DSC) and service aces (5-4 DSC).
 
The Swords will finish the season Saturday at McCabe Gym against Hawai'i-Hilo at 7 p.m. It will be the final matches in the careers of Crystal Powell, Montoya and Rapoza.
