Box Score AZUSA, Calif. – The road continues to be unkind to the Chaminade women's volleyball team. The Silverswords fell to 2-7 away from McCabe Gym in a 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 setback to Azusa Pacific in a Pacific West Conference match Saturday afternoon.
The Swords fell to 9-14 overall and 6-12 in the PacWest. The Cougars improved to 19-8 and 11-6.
Kim Spring led the Swords with nine kills while
Kapiolani Rapoza contributed with seven along with four block assists.
Kylee Pedro had five total blocks, while
Brenda Walker led CUH with 14 digs.
Mattie Shelford had a match-high 12 kills while hitting .500 on the day.
The Swords trailed by a single point at 5-4 early in Set 1, but could not overcome a .333 hitting performance by APU as the Cougars cruised to take a 1-0 lead.
Chaminade continued to struggle early in the second set as the Cougars built a 16-6 lead. Three Rapoza kills would help reduce the deficit to 18-14, but the lead was too much to overcome as APU went up 2-0.
The Swords would better in the third set, trailing 13-12. But a 6-3 run was the opening that APU needed to pull out the match victory.
The Cougars outhit the Swords, .266-to-.124, but CUH managed to stay with them on the blocking stat line with nine per team. APU also held a slight edge in digs, 49-43.
Chaminade concludes its road trip on Monday at Dixie State, then returns for its final match of the season on Feb. 16 against Hawai'i-Hilo.
