MSOC: Swords Bow to Sea Warriors in Season Opener

Cameron Heen scored CUH's second goal vs. HPU.
Box Score

WAIPIO, Hawai'i – The Chaminade men's soccer team opened the 2013 season, falling to Hawai'i Pacific, 4-2, under the lights at Waipio Soccer Stadium in a non-conference matchup, spoiling the debut of new head coach Marcus Chambers.

Shayne Uyehara made his first-ever start in goal for the Silverswords, but couldn't thwart a relentless Sea Warrior front, which amassed 24 shots on the evening.

HPU opened the scoring on a Felipe Silva goal at the 40th minute. The Swords responded at the 59th minute as Colton Gallt found the back of the net after a pile-up after a throw in from the sidelines.

But three minutes later, the Sea Warriors would break the tie with a Daniel Haehre goal, followed by one from Brais Garcia only two minutes after that.

CUH cut into the lead on a Cameron Heen goal at the 66th minute, to reduce the deficit by one at 3-2, but Silva's second goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute would provide insurance to wrap up the game.

The Swords could only muster five shots on the evening while HPU amassed six corner kicks to none for CUH. Mael Lefebvre earned the win for the Sea Warriors.

Chaminade makes its home debut on Monday as it hosts Cal State San Bernardino at St. Louis Field. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m.
