HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team returned to Saint Louis Field for the first time in three weeks Saturday, but got a rude welcome back by California Baptist University.
Playing in only their second home game of the year and their first since Sept. 13, the Silverswords saw the Lancers score twice in both the first and second halves as CBU dropped Chaminade, 4-1, in a Pacific West Conference game.
Twyla Hamasaki, the reigning PacWest Player of the Week, scored the lone goal for the Silverswords (2-5 overall, 2-2 PacWest), coming with 41 seconds remaining. The Iolani graduate received a feed from
Shannon Wright and, on the breakaway, chipped the ball over Lancers' netminder, Sara Escobedo, who came out of the box to challenge the play. It was Hamasaki's fourth goal of the season and third time in four games she found the back of the net. It was also Wright's second assist of the year.
Kimberly Allard opened the scoring in the 15
th minute and 21 minutes later, Jasmine Stokes added another as CBU (4-4, 2-2) took a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Lancers got two more goals in the second half to ice the game.
Lauren Ishii made five saves in a losing effort while Escobedo got the win.
