KANEOHE, O'ahu – The Chaminade University women's soccer team battled, but came up short in a tough 2-1 loss to cross-town rival Hawai'i Pacific University Saturday at Atherton Field.
The Silverswords (3-9-1 overall, 3-6-1 Pacific West Conference) got on the board first in the 22
nd minute when
Tiana Lucas' through ball found
Twyla Hamasaki, who hit the back of the net. It was Hamasaki's fifth goal of the year and the first assist for Lucas, the freshman from Maui High School as the 'Swords made the lead stand at the half.
However, the Sharks (10-4-2, 7-3-1 PacWest) got equalizer in the 57
th minute on Erika Ellis' goal. HPU then took the lead on Lexi Cameau's shot off a Taylor Rae Silva corner in the 71
st minute.
The 'Swords looked to square the game, but
Nicole Nishiki's shot with 10 minutes left to play was too high, allowing the Sharks to escape with the win.
Lauren Ishii took the loss in making six saves. Kelly Boswell earned the win with two saves.
The Silverswords travel to the Big Island to face Hawai'i-Hilo on Thursday. The game is a make-up from the Oct. 18 postponement due to Hurricane Ana.
