HILO, Hawai'i – The remarkable rise of the Chaminade University men's soccer team continued Thursday as they downed Hawai'i-Hilo, 3-2, Thursday at UH-Hilo Baseball Stadium.
Senior defender
Matt Davies broke a 2-2 deadlock with a header off
Austin Bush's corner kick on the 79
th minute to give the Silverswords the dramatic win.
Chaminade, which set a program record for wins in a single season Saturday, continued to add on to their win total with their fifth victory of the season. The Silverswords are 5-10 on the season and 4-7 in the Pacific West Conference. The Vulcans fell to 6-9-2 and 4-6-1.
Rene Mejia, making his third consecutive start, made three saves in picking up his second win of the year. The loss went to Erick Lemus.
Chaminade got on the board first on
Nicolas Ferro's goal in the 11

James Meaney's first goal of the year on a
Lukas Pousset assist, giving Chaminade a 2-1 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Vulcans tied it in the 78

"Once again I am very proud of the boys' effort," Silverswords head coach
Zach Kingsley said. "We are taking the lessons we learn into each game and executing our game plans.
"Today, we were tested late but stayed positive against a strong opponent and got the game-winner. Big plays were made by our goal keeper, Rene, and big goals from Nico, James and especially the winner by our captain, Matt. It was a great team effort all around and the boys deserve to have this success."
The evenly-played game saw both teams take an equal number of shot attempts (8) and saves (3).
The Swords return home for their season finale on Saturday when they face BYU-Hawai'i at Saint Louis Field with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. The team will honor seniors Davies,
Trevor Freeman,
Tyler Kochi and
Dayton Sato following the game.
