Second Half Goals Doom ’Swords Soccer

Box Score HEYWARD, Calif.  – There's just something about the second half that the Chaminade University women's soccer team is still trying to figure out.

In their first two games of the year, late game-winning goals have thwarted the Silverswords. Saturday against Cal State East Bay, the damage was done earlier.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Janelle Herrera found Ariana Gordon twice in the second half to lead the CSUEB to a 3-0 win over Chaminade at Pioneer Stadium. Off a free kick in the 59th minute, Herrera found Gordon who headed the ball into the net for the game's first goal. The duo replicated their feat 16 minutes later for a 2-0 lead. Herrera wasn't done, assisting on a third goal less than two minutes later, this time to Kianna Lamont.

Lauren Ishii made six saves for the 'Swords, who fell to 0-3 on the year. Pioneers' goalkeeper Selena Braun made one save and improved to 3-1-2 on the season.

Chaminade attempted four shots on the day, two from Twyla Hamasaki while Megan McClanahan accounted for CUH's lone shot on goal.

The 'Swords open Pacific West Conference Tuesday at Notre Dame de Namur.
