Women’s Soccer Beats Dominican for Second Straight Win

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The upwards trend in the Pacific West Conference for the Chaminade University women's soccer team continued Thursday, this time with a 2-0 win over Dominican University of California at Kennelly Field.

Twyla Hamasaki scored both goals for the Silverswords, coming just minutes apart late in the game. Chaminade (2-3 overall, 2-0 PacWest) won their second straight, posting their first two-game win streak since 2010. They are also 2-0 in the conference for the first time in program history.

"We are very proud of our athletes," Chaminade head coach Michelle Richardson said. "They continue to improve with each game. Today, they dug deep and worked together as a team to earn this win."

Hamasaki's first goal, coming at the 70th minute, was a shot from 21 yards out as the ball arced over the reach of Penguins net minder, Sylvanna Islas. Keelani Duffey was credited with the assist.

Six minutes later, Hamasaki did it again, this time working her way down the left sideline, and from 18 yards out, found the lower right corner for a 2-0 Silverswords lead. The Iolani graduate became the first 'Swords player to have a multi-goal game since Jaime Lindstrom accomplished the feat in November 2008.

Chaminade goalkeeper Lauren Ishii made four saves in notching her second straight win and shutout. Islas took the loss for Dominican (0-7, 0-1) to drop her record to 0-2.

Jana Kakugawa took the only other shot on goal for the Silverswords, who were outshot, 12-5. The Penguins also held the corner kick advantage, 6-2.

The 'Swords will seek an unprecedented three-game win streak when they face Fresno Pacific Saturday to end their road trip.
