Fresno Pacific Strikes Early to Down ’Swords, 2-0

FRESNO, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team could not overcome two quick goals by Fresno Pacific University Saturday night at Ramirez Field, falling in a 2-0 Pacific West Conference decision to end their road trip.

The Sunbirds, who notched their first win of the year, wasted no time, scoring less than two minutes into the contest on Alyssa Nakaguchi's penalty kick after the Silverswords (2-4 overall, 2-1 PacWest) were whistled for a foul in the box.

Just nine minutes later, a scrum in front of the Chaminade net resulted in an Ana Walker goal, giving Fresno Pacific a 2-0 advantage.

That was all the Sunbirds (1-5-1, 1-1-1) needed as they held off the 'Swords the remainder of the way.

Lauren Ishii suffered the loss to drop to 2-4 while Summer Hammond got the win for FPU.

Fresno Pacific outshot Chaminade in overall shots, 18-7, and shots on goal, 8-3. Twyla Hamasaki attempted two shots, both on goal, for the 'Swords, who saw their win streak snapped at two.

Despite the setback, the 'Swords managed to win 2-of-3 during the road trip, it's first two Mainland victories in program history.

The Silverswords return home to face California Baptist next Saturday at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. HST.
