IRVINE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team continues to seek that elusive first win of the season, dropping a 5-2 loss Saturday to Concordia at Eagles Soccer Field.
The loss kept the Silverswords out of the winner's ledger again, dropping them to 0-8 overall and 0-5 in the Pacific West Conference.
The Eagles, in their first year in the PacWest, improved to 3-7 and 3-3.
Things started off on the right foot for Chaminade when at just under the 11 minute mark,
Lukas Pousset found the lower left corner to give the Silverswords a 1-0, the team's first lead of the season, a span of nearly 641 minutes. It was also the Pousset's first goal of the year.
But the lead was short-lived. In a dizzying span of 14 minutes, Concordia struck for four goals in the first half, the first two by John Letona. CUI's final two goals in the frame came just 32 seconds apart giving the Eagles a 4-1 lead at the half.
A red card against Concordia a minute into the second half resulted in the Eagles having to go the rest of the game a player short. The 'Swords took advantage eight minutes later when passes from
Jaewon Huh and Pousset to
Tyler Braunthal resulted in another goal, giving Chaminade its first multi-goal game of the season. It was also Braunthal's first career goal.
With renewed life, the 'Swords continued to attack but would come away empty. Concordia then applied the dagger with just three minutes left with Erik Torres' second goal of the game to complete the scoring.
Chaminade out-shot Concordia 9-2 in the game's final 45 minutes.
Nicolas Ferro took four shots for the 'Swords, three on goal.
Bernd Buescherhoff started the game in goal for the Silverswords recording one save while
Rene Mejia played the entire second half. Jordan Brinkley played the first half for CUI to pick up the win before being replaced at halftime by Christian Tait who made three second-half saves.
Chaminade wraps up its first Mainland trip of the year Monday when it visits Point Loma.
