ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Chaminade University women's soccer team played in their final Mainland match of the season, falling to Dixie State 3-1 at Walt Brooks Field on the Dixie High School campus.
The Silverswords fell to 1-14 overall and 0-11 in the Pacific West Conference. The Red Storm, celebrating their senior day, improved to 10-6 and 8-4.
The 'Swords, whose injury-ravaged squad has had trouble scoring all season, got on the board with 48 seconds left to play.
Kelli Fryxell tapped in from six yards out on
Twyla Hamasaki's corner kick for the freshman's first career goal. For Hamasaki, the program's all-time leader in goals, the assist was her first point of the year.
The 'Swords trailed 1-0 at the half on Darian McCloy's goal at the 19-minute mark. The Red Storm added two Jasmine Arollo goals in the second half.
Fryxell's goal came on her first career shot attempt. Hamaskai attempted Chaminade's other shot on goal and had three attempts total.
Lauren Ishii made 11 saves on the afternoon in taking the loss. Stacie Gubler earned the win for the Red Strom.
The Silverswords return home Thursday to face Hawai'i-Hilo at Saint Louis Field with kickoff set for 10 a.m. It will be Senior Day for Hamasaki, Ishii,
Kristen Fujinaga and
Raquelle Matayoshi.
