Men’s Soccer Opens Season with Loss

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team finally made its 2015 debut Saturday but came up on the short end of a 4-1 score to Pacific West Conference rival BYU-Hawai'i on a warm and muggy day at Saint Louis Field.

The Seasiders got a hat trick from Jacob McRae to even their record to 1-1 in the non-conference matchup.

The Silverswords got on the board in the second half courtesy of two newcomers. In the 59th minutes, freshman Tyler Morton, the O'ahu Interscholastic Association East Division Player of the Year at Moanalua High School, took a shot that deflected off BYUH goalkeeper Jaden Epplette. Fellow freshman Ryan Arkelian, the Tri-River Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year in Central California, then headed the ball into the net off the deflection for his first career goal while Morton got his first career assist.

Epplette got the win in goal to improve to 1-0 while 'Swords net minder Rene Mejia was tagged with the loss.

BYUH took 22 shots to Chaminade's six.

The game also marked the debut of Silverswords interim head coach Danny O'Regan.

The Silverswords return to action Thursday when they face Hawai'i-Hilo in a non-conference matchup at 12:30 p.m., part of a doubleheader with the women's team.
