SAN FRANCISCO – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team overcame a slow start then powered their way past Academy of Art, 20-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-18, Monday at Kezar Pavillion.
In one of their most balanced attacking matches of the season, seven Silverswords had five or more kills, led by
Daisia LaBrie's nine.
Kira Long put down eight kills while
Kim Spring and
Cassie Rushlow had six each while
Emma Tecklenburg,
Ku`ulei Lynch and
Kiana Drumheller contributed with five apiece.
Rushlow also had six total blocks while Lynch had four and LaBrie three.
Skyler Curry had 16 assists and three aces while
Natashya Enos returned to the floor and had 14 helpers. Enos also had 14 digs for her team-leading 10
th double-double of the season.
Kasse-Ann Kiriu-Dela Cruz and
Waihilo Chartrand combined for 21 digs.
The 'Swords improved to 16-12 overall and 10-9 in the Pacific West Conference.
The Urban Knights were led by Hanna Kahn's 12 kills as they fell to 7-20 and 5-13.
After dropping the first set, Chaminade opened up a 9-3 Set 2 advantage and never looked back.
The 'Swords registered no service aces and had only one total team block after the first two sets. But they roared back with six aces and two blocks in the third set then four more aces – three by Curry – and three blocks in the final set.
Chaminade's 10 service aces are the most since also getting 10 against the Urban Knights back on Oct. 7 at McCabe Gym.
The Silverswords will end the season Friday against intercity rival Hawai'i Pacific University at St. Andrew's Priory Gym. Match time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
