HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team made another valiant effort but was again thwarted, this time by Notre Dame de Namur, 83-77, in a Pacific West Conference game Friday at McCabe Gym.
Courtney Kaupu tied career-highs of 20 points and six assists in a losing effort as the Silverswords fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the PacWest.
Destiny Castro had her best performance in her fourth career collegiate game with 17 points. Kaupu and Castro combined for 17-of-29 shooting from the floor. Kaupu also pulled down eight rebounds.

Lilia Maio tallied her program-record 16
th double-double with 18 points and 13 boards as she continued her march for 1,000. The senior from Nanakuli now has 993 career points and can become only the second player in program history to reach 1,000 with seven on Sunday at Hawai'i Pacific.
Emily Tevez led the Argonauts (3-5, 1-0 PacWest) with a game-high 25 points as NDNU snapped the 'Swords' two-game winning streak against them.
Kali Benavente dished out a season-high eight assists, the most by a Silversword since March 2012.
The 'Swords lead for most of the first quarter before the Argos went ahead in the final minutes of the second. NDNU managed to take a 55-48 lead with 5:52 left in the third quarter but Maio and Kaupu combined for seven straight points as Chaminade knotted the game at 55 two minutes later.
But the Argos' 7-0 run would help give them a 65-59 lead after three quarters. However, the 'Swords could not get closer than six through most of the fourth.
Chaminade managed to shoot 50 percent from the field, its highest of the year. The 'Swords also out-rebounded NDNU 39-35 and had 21 assists, the second-most in program history.
Sunday's game at HPU will be at the Neal Blaisdell Center with tipoff set for 1 p.m.
