FRESNO, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team made their first Mainland trip of the season to open Pacific West Conference action.
However, the Silverswords came up short, falling to Fresno Pacific, 2-0, Thursday at Ramirez Field in the conference opener for both teams.
Chaminade fell to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the PacWest while Fresno Pacific improved to 3-2 and 1-0.
Rachelle Schiller scored in the 38
th minute to open the scoring then Sassy Weigant capped it with her goal in the 46
th minute off a free kick.
FPU held possession for most of the game as they out-shot Chaminade 29-8.
But Silverswords keeper
Brandee Lane managed to control the barrage of shots and keep her squad in the game. The Castle High School alumna set a career-high with 16 saves, the most by a 'Sword in a single game since October 2013. Her total also tied three other occasions for fourth-most in program history.
Bianca Gonzales and
Kelli Fryxell were responsible for the Silverswords' two shot on goals while
Caitlin Tatemichi took three shots.
Chaminade also played a relatively clean game, committing only three fouls with no penalty cards. Meanwhile Fresno Pacific was tagged for 13 fouls and received a caution.
FPU's Summer Hammond got the win to improve to 3-2.
The 'Swords continue their Bay Area road trip Saturday when travel to Oakland to face Holy Names.
