Women’s Soccer Blanks Holy Names

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team finally is back in the win column.

The Silverswords got a pair of first-half goals then held on to down Holy Names, 2-0, Saturday at Merritt College Stadium.

Caitlin Tatemichi scored her second goal of the season while Chelsie Delameter added her first career goal to help the 'Swords improve to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Pacific West Conference. The Hawks fell to 0-4-1 and 0-2.

The victory snapped the team's 20-game losing streak. It was also Chaminade's first road win since Oct. 2014.

"The team played well today," Chaminade head coach Michelle Richardson said. "This was a big win for us and it will give us confidence as we continue conference play."

After 36 scoreless minutes, Tatemichi put the 'Swords on the board with her goal on a pass from Marissa Liberato. Then with just 16 left before the half, Delameter took a Nicole Nishiki pass for her first career score to put Chaminade up 2-0.

The Silverswords' defense then went to work in the final 45 minutes, limiting the Hawks to just five second-half shots.

In all, the Silverswords attempted a season-high 13 shots with Tatemichi taking six, two on goal. Lauren Uehara had two more attempts.

Chaminade keeper Brandee Lane made three saves and picked up her first career win and shutout. Vanessa Amaral of Holy Names was tagged with the loss.

"We have continued to learn and better ourselves with each match," Richardson said. "Each player contributed to our success. I'm pleased with our players work ethic today and know we will continue to progress."

The Silverswords conclude their Bay Area road trip Monday at Academy of Art.
