RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team faced their third nationally-ranked top-10 foe this season but came away on the short end of a 25-14, 25-21, 25-20 decision to No. 6 California Baptist in their final appearance at Van Dyne Gym.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) each had nine kills for the Silverswords who fell to 9-8 overall and 4-5 in the Pacific West Conference.
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) added seven kills for Chaminade.
The Lancers were led by Madison Witt, a former All-Pac 12 beach volleyball player at the University of Arizona, who had 14 kills. Her twin sister, McKenna, also an Arizona transfer, had nine for CBU which remained unbeaten on the season at 17-0 and 9-0 in the PacWest. Lauren Hackett added nine kills for the Lancers.
The 'Swords managed six total team blocks with
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) accounting for four total blocks, all solo. Bell's four block solos are the most by a Silversword since Crystal Powell's four against Dominican in September 2012.
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) had 18 assists for Chaminade while
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had nine.
Nina Torio (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) had a match-high 12 digs.
Despite being overmatched statistically, Chaminade managed to take 55 points off CBU, tied for the second-most by a PacWest foe at Van Dyne Gym this season.
The Silverswords conclude their road trip Thursday against another nationally-ranked foe in No. 25 Azusa Pacific.
