HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team came up on the short end of a 4-0 loss to Dominican University of California in drizzly conditions Monday at Saint Louis Field.
The defeat dropped the Silverswords to 3-9-1 overall and 2-7-1 in the Pacific West Conference.
A Chaminade red card just before the end of the first half helped to set the tone for the second.
Forced to play with a player down, the Penguins (5-7-2, 3-5-1 PacWest) took advantage with four second-half goals.
DUC's Mariah Meza scored the first goal of the contest as she got the ball past charging CUH goalkeeper
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Castle). However the junior collided with Meza and suffered an injury that knocked her out of the contest.
That prompted
Rachel Arakawa (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Kaiser) to make her first-ever collegiate appearance in front of the 'Swords' net.
Arakawa played the final 35:28 of the match, making two saves on the day while Lane also made two saves before leaving the contest.
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) took two of Chaminade's three shots, one of which was on-goal.
Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) had the team's other shot.
The Silverswords return to the Saint Louis Field pitch Saturday when they face intercity rival Hawai'i Pacific University at 12 p.m.
