HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team will have to wait another year for the elusive win over their intercity rivals.
The Silverswords came away on the short end of a 3-1 decision to Hawai'i Pacific University Saturday at Saint Louis Field.
Chaminade fell to 3-10-1 overall and 3-7-1 in the Pacific West Conference while HPU improved to 8-8-1 and 4-7-1. The 'Swords haven't tasted victory over the Sharks since 2008.
Senior
Bree Chang (Aloha, Ore./Aloha) scored her first career goal, blasting a 40-yarder over the outstretched arms of HPU keeper Alannah John on a free kick in the 85
th minute.
Sophomore
Kasila Carey (Anchorage, Alaska/Bartlett) got her first career start at goalkeeper for the 'Swords, making five saves.
HPU scored the match's first three goals. Ebony Madrid accounted for a goal and assist for the visitors.
Chaminade took 13 shots, six on-goal with
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) attempting a team-high three shots.
Nicole Nishiki (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani),
Megan McClanahan (Papillion, Neb./Papillion LaVista South) and Chang each had two shots at the net. Eleven of the 'Swords shots came in the second half as they ramped up their attack and all three of their corner kicks were in the final 45 minutes.
The Silverswords will return to the Saint Louis Field pitch for the final time Thursday when they host Fresno Pacific at 10 a.m. Chang, McClanahan and
Shyann Moriguchi (Ewa Beach, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) will be honored as the team's seniors.
