HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team got another exceptional effort from sophomore
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) Friday but the Silverswords came out on the short end of a 18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-22 decision to Concordia University Irvine at McCabe Gym.
Tecklenburg put down a match-high 15 kills and added 14 digs for her team-best 10
th double-double on the season. She also had two service aces.
Rachel Flynn had 14 kills for the red-hot Eagles who won their eighth consecutive match after starting Pacific West Conference action 0-5. Only No. 5 and unbeatedn California Baptist has a longer winning streak (20).
Chaminade fell to 11-10 overall and 6-7 in the PacWest while Concordia improved to 12-8 and 8-5.
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) had nine kills for the 'Swords followed by
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) who tallied eight.
Kiana Drumheller (Auburn, Wash./Auburn Riverside) contributed with six kills and a season-high three blocks.
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) had a team-best four total blocks (three assisted).
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) had 20 assists with
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) had 16. Both setters also had two aces. Wiley also had 11 digs as did
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit).
After rolling the Eagles in the first set with Tecklenburg and Reedy combining for nine kills, CUI returned the favor in the second set.
In the third and fourth sets, Concordia had 17-10 leads in both stanzas before Chaminade rallied both times. A 7-1 'Swords run in the third got them to a point. In the fourth set, CUH managed to grab the lead twice including 22-21 but CUI's 4-0 run ended the match.
Both teams had excellent serving nights with Concordia getting 11 aces while Chaminade got 10. The Eagles, who lead the PacWest in blocks, managed nine total team blocks.
The Silverswords will next be in action Monday as they face Notre Dame de Namur at McCabe Gym. The match features two of the PacWest's top attackers with Tecklenburg ranking third (64
th nationally) at 3.66 kills per set while NDNU counters with Bianca Alvarez who is fourth in the nation at 5.08 kps. Alvarez is chasing the PacWest's all-time kills record of 1,705 and currently stands at 1,648 after the Argonauts' match at Hawai'i Hilo on Friday.
