SAN FRANCISCO – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team continued to roll on their final road trip of the season, sweeping past Academy of Art, 25-20, 25-19, 25-13, Thursday at Kezar Pavilion.
Rachel Reedy (Temple City, Calif./Arcadia) put down 10 kills for the Silverswords with a .562 hitting percentage and tied her season-high with four total blocks.
Playing a rare afternoon weekday match, Chaminade (14-11 overall and 9-8 in the Pacific West Conference) extended their road winning streak to three for the first time since 2006 when it won four straight on the Mainland.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) had nine kills and three blocks followed by
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) and
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) with seven kills each.
Alexis Hamilton (Miami/Valley Christian) put down five attacks and tied her season-high with five blocks.
Skyler Curry (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) assumed the primary setting duties in the match and set a career-high with 37 assists with
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) and
Nina Torio (Mililani, Hawai'i/Mililani) picking up nine and seven digs, respectively.
Bailey Soolsma led the Urban Knights (5-19, 2-15 PacWest) with 10 kills.
The 'Swords used an 8-2 run midway through the first set to open up a 20-13 lead before ART U rallied back and closed to within 23-20. But Curry's dump shot and a Tecklenburg attack ended the set to put them up 1-0.
Chaminade jumped out to a 19-12 lead in the second set, getting nine natural points to the Urban Knights' two to help them to a 2-0 set lead.
The 'Swords, who were held without a block through the first two sets, finally established a wall in the third, getting all seven of their total team blocks in the stanza. Hamilton had a field day midway in the set's latter stages, accounting for three points with a kill and four block assists during the decisive 9-1 run which helped end the match.
Chaminade hit .310 in the match, its third straight hitting .287 or better, and held ART U to .125. The 'Swords also had six service aces on the afternoon with
Isabella Tessitore (San Diego/Torrey Pines) and Zanon each getting two. They also out-dug the Urban Knights, 39-28.
The Silverswords wrap up their Mainland trip Saturday at Dominican University of California.
