HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team got two record achievements on-route to a 4-1 win over Holy Names Thursday at Saint Louis Field.
Caitlin Tatemichi (Honolulu/Roosevelt) booted in a school-record four goals to help the Silverswords (2-4, 1-2 Pacific West Conference) snap a four-game slide.
Meanwhile goalkeeper
Brandee Lane (Kaneohe, Hawai'i/Castle) made four saves in recording her sixth career victory to become the program's all-time leader in wins, passing Lauren Ishii (2012-15).
Tatemichi not only recorded her first career multi-goal contest, she also became the first Chaminade women's soccer player to record a hat trick. Prior to her record-setting day, the only other hat trick in Chaminade history was Lukas Pousset who did it for the Silversword men's squad in October 2015.
Her four scores and eight points is the most-ever in a single match by a Chaminade soccer player, men or women.
Tatemichi's record-setting performance is also the most goals scored by a PacWest player since Grand Canyon's Marina Nesic had five against Academy of Art in September 2010. Tatemichi also joins six other players nationally with a four-goal game this season.
Chaminade's
Cailla Fabro (Waipahu, Hawai'i/Idaho State) had two assists to become the first player in program history with a multi-assist game.
Allie Sementelli had the lone goal for the Hawks (0-7, 0-2 PacWest).
Tatemichi's first goal came in the 17
th minute off a free kick by
Bree Chang (Aloha, Ore./Aloha) and remained 1-0 at the half.
Her second score came in the 60
th minute on a perfect crossing pass from Fabro.
After HNU closed to 2-1 in the 76
th minute, Tatemichi got the hat trick six minutes later on a penalty kick. She then closed the books on her record-setting day in the 85
th minute as
Megan McClanahan (Papillion, Neb./Papillion LaVista South) made a crossing pass from the left sideline to Fabro who in turn fed Tatemichi for the goal and a double assist.
Tatemichi took 10 of Chaminade's 18 shots. Seven of her attempts were on-goal while the 'Swords had 10 that were on target.
The Hawks' Vanessa Amaral took the loss.
The Silverswords return to the pitch Tuesday when they host Academy of Art at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
