HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team ended their six-match conference-opening home stand with a 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 loss to Azusa Pacific at McCabe Gym on Saturday.
Emma Tecklenburg (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) led the Silverswords with a match-high 19 kills.
Kira Long (Vista, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) contributed with nine while
Brooke Bell (Escondido, Calif./North Idaho College) had six kills and three blocks.
The loss dropped Chaminade to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in the Pacific West Conference while the Cougars, who are sitting just outside the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll, improved to 13-1 and 6-0.
Madison Ogas led APU with 13 kills.
Danielle Wiley (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) dished out 31 assists for Chaminade while fellow freshman
Claire Zanon (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) returned to the libero spot and had 11 digs with six assists.
Statistically, the match was near-even with the 'Swords having the advantage in kills (40-39) and assists (37-33) while the Cougars led in digs (47-37), total team blocks (8-5) and points (50-48). But APU hit .371 on the match, committing just six hitting errors while CUH was held to a season-low .118 percentage with 26 errors.
The Silverswords make their first conference road trip of the season next week for four matches, starting next Saturday at Concordia University Irvine.
