’Swords Rally for 2-1 Win at Holy Names

HAYWARD, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team got two second half goals for a come-from-behind 2-1 win Saturday over Holy Names at Pioneer Field.

Tasman Turner (Kailua, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Iolani) netted his first career goal with less than four minutes remaining to give the Silverswords the victory.

Chaminade improved to 4-5-2 overall and 3-4-2 in the Pacific West Conference. Holy Names fell to 4-11-1 and 3-6 in the PacWest.

After a scoreless first half, the Hawks struck first on a goal from Edwin Hernandez in the 58th minute.

But the 'Swords countered in the 69th minute when Reece Hambly (Birmingham, England/Scottsdale CC/Hagley HS) fired a through-ball to Micah Mokulehua (Waimanalo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser) who broke free down the right sideline. The junior midfielder fired a shot that slipped past HNU keeper Alessandro Ramondino into the lower left corner to square the game. Mokulehua's goal gave him his team-leading third of the season.

Chaminade nearly had a goal 10 minutes later when Noah Mokulehua (Waimanalo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kaiser) fired a shot that headed towards the net but Ramondino made a kick-save to prevent the score.

Then in the 86th minute, the Silverswords finally went ahead. Hambly lobbed a free kick towards the net where Turner headed the ball into the goal to put the 'Swords in front and giving Hambly his second assist of the game.

Chaminade's defense then held on in the waning minutes to keep them ahead when the time expired to complete their first come-from-behind win since Oct. 13, 2016 when they rallied for a 2-1 victory over Concordia.

For the second consecutive game, CUH goalkeeper Michael Stafford (Honolulu/Iowa Western CC/Kalani HS) made 11 saves which tied his career high. Ramondino made seven saves for the Hawks.

The 'Swords took 16 shots at the net with a season-high 10 on-goal. Micah Mokulehua took three shots, all on-goal. Turner and Tyler Ebisuya (Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Iolani) also attempted three shots as well. Hambly and Jaewon Huh (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Aiea) had two shots each.

The Silverswords will conclude their road trip Monday at Academy of Art.
