Dressler Earns Defender of the Week Award

IRVINE, Calif. – Chaminade University guard Grant Dressler on Monday was named the Pacific West Conference Men's Basketball Defender of the Week.

The 6-7 native of Las Vegas had six steals and three defensive rebounds in last Tuesday's win at Holy Names while adding 23 points and seven assists.

In Thursday's road trip finale at Notre Dame de Namur, the transfer from Sacramento State and Palo Verde High School alumnus had five defensive boards and a steal as the 20th-ranked Silverswords held NDNU to just 36.7 percent shooting. Dressler also had 16 points on four 3-pointers and five assists.

Dressler, who earned his second Defender of the Week honor and his fourth conference weekly award this season, ranks second in the conference in scoring (18.0) and assists (4.5) while leading in 3-pointers at 2.6 made per game.

The other weekly award winners were Alonzo Taylor of Holy Names (Player of the Week) and Cameron Fini of Academy of Art (Freshman of the Week).

The Silverswords (13-2, 7-2 PacWest) are back home at McCabe Gymnasium this week to begin a stretch of contests against PacWest contenders. On Thursday, Chaminade faces conference-leading and No. 16 Point Loma (13-2, 9-0 PacWest). It will be the first PacWest game with both teams nationally ranked since February 2017.

On Saturday, the 'Swords will face second-place Concordia Irvine (11-6, 7-1 PacWest). The Eagles have been a thorn in Chaminade's side, having won four of the five meetings.
