KAHUKU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University men's and women's cross country teams competed on O'ahu for the final time this year on Saturday, taking part of the Hawai'i Pacific University Invitational at the Kahuku Golf Course.
The Silversword women accumulated 99 points to finish fourth. Hawai'i-Manoa was the team champion with 26 points.
Freshman
Alena Albertson (Austin, Texas/Cedar Park) was Chaminade's first finisher in the women's 5-kilometer race, coming in at 21:25.2, good for a 14th-place overall finish.
Olivia Mariucci (Templeton, Calif./Templeton) was just two places behind at 21:43.1.
Eri Leong (Las Vegas/SECTA) logged a time of 23:16.4 followed by
Riley Hallman (Renner, S.D./Tri-Valley) at 23:51.4 and
Montserrat Lanfranco (Honolulu/Roosevelt) at 24:52.5.
HPU's Robyn Kaltenbrunn captured medalist honors individually at 19:28.1.
In the men's 8-k, a depleted men's team finished second to HPU with 38 points. Meanwhile
Peyton Oshiro (Honolulu/Hawai'i Baptist Academy) continued his excellent rookie campaign as a 'Sword with his third consecutive top team finish, completing the course in 31:05.9 to finish the race fifth overall.
Elijah Bernardo-Flores (Waipahu, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) came in seventh overall at 32:27.6.
Matthew Schmidt (Hanalei, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy) placed eighth overall at 34:35.5, his first career top-10 finish.
Rocco Deangelo (Mebane, N.C./Southern Alamance) placed 10th overall at 36:07.0, followed by
Josiah Rodrigues (Honoka'a, Hawai'i/Honoka'a) finished in 38:26.2
The Sharks' Lukas Motschmann was the men's winner at 25:54.8.
Both Silverswords squads will have their final two races outside of O'ahu, starting next Saturday at the University of Hawai'i Hilo Invitational. They conclude the season at the Pacific West Conference Championships in Fullerton, Calif. on Oct. 26.
